Customer Gains with Reduced Service Calls and Field Complaints

The air compressors manufactures - Arempee Compressors were using metallic gaskets to seal the valve plate assembly to cylinder head in top block assembly of the compressors. However, the metallic gaskets do not create 100% sealing between mating surfaces and are expensive which cause field complaints of air and oil leakage. Loctite 596 silicone gasketing compounds help them to solve this problem. They covers surface imperfections and seal potential leak paths which create 100% sealing between mating flanges. The field complaints of sealing failures were eliminated - creating further savings in servicing costs for Arempee.

Henkel Engineer Provides Solution after Analyzing Process Considerations
The high voltage IHP motors of 150 to 3000 HP rating in India used an RTV silicone sealant to seal the end shield of the motors. However, the seal created by this sealant failed to perform consistently and failed to withstand IP 65* tests. During a plant survey, Henkel Loctite 518 Gasket Eliminator an anaerobic Flange sealant was recommended for this application. It fills all imperfections of cast iron body and end shield. It does not cure until the application on the entire flange area is complete and end shield is assembled thereby eliminating the limitations with previous application method. The assembly passes IP 65 test - eliminating rejections and rework.

Outperforms Asbestos Gaskets and O-rings

A leading manufacturer of gas and oil fired boilers and boiler systems in Korea was using Asbestos Fiber Gaskets to seal the exhaust cover and O-rings to seal the burner housing. But these gaskets were expensive due to unique shape and size of flanges and they failed to give 100% sealing on flange surfaces and relaxed over time. Also, asbestos is not environment friendly and the customer wanted to move to more environment friendly option. Loctite 5702 Silicone Gasket Maker was successfully tested for this application.

Leaks Eliminated, Gasketing Costs Cut Over 60%
Whirlpool Corporation wants to increase production and cut costs while improving product quality. During the development of a new model washing machine, its engineering staff analyzed the assembly process of their transmission case flanges. It required tacking down a cut gasket into position and torquing the fasteners in the case. Not only was this process extremely labor intensive, but leakage was present.
Loctite suggested Formed-in-Place (FIP) Anaerobic Flange Sealants to achieve this goal. Unlike conventional gasketing methods, FIP technology doesn’t require extreme compression loading to form a reliable seal. Anaerobics offer true “metal-to-metal” flange contact, dramatically improving structural load-carrying capability.

One of the Specified Fittings’ customers required 48″ PVC fittings for water transmission pipe. This order was unique because at the time no one in the industry could fulfill this need inhouse. Its five-minute worklife allowed them plenty of time to adjust the gasket into place.
