An Indian manufacturer of domestic water purifiers used ptfe tapes to seal the plastic pipe thread joints. Though no leaks were detected at assembly / testing stage, the joints loosened during transportation & handling causing leak. PTFE tapes offeres lubricity that many times results in over tightening of the plastic joints – leasing to cracks and under vibrations – aids loosening. PTFE tapes also tend to shred and lose their sealing properties when the joints are re-adjusted.

PST ® 567 Pipe Sealant Stops The Leak On University’s Chilled Water Piping.

The University of Wisconsin in Madison employs 40 steamfitters to maintain its central heating and cooling system in over 300 buildings. In one situation, the maintenance team was replacing some 3″ diameter chilled water piping and was using a different style of piping. The threads had to be recut to make the fit and Teflon® tape was used to seal the joined piping.
