Contractor Chose Loctite Sealants over PTFE Thread Tapes

Sayer Constructions – a leading civil contractor in Australia – was installing fire hydrants around building sites. Customer had previously used PTFE Thread Tapes to seal the treaded pipe joints in the hydrants. However, thread tapes failed to withstand high pressures and water surges typical in hydrant systems. Customer could not adjust position during assembly as the ptfe tapes shred if done so.

PST ® 567 Pipe Sealant Stops The Leak On University’s Chilled Water Piping.

The University of Wisconsin in Madison employs 40 steamfitters to maintain its central heating and cooling system in over 300 buildings. In one situation, the maintenance team was replacing some 3″ diameter chilled water piping and was using a different style of piping. The threads had to be recut to make the fit and Teflon® tape was used to seal the joined piping.
