A.O. Smith Water Products Co., of McBee, SC uses Loctite Corporation’s standard Marco II sealant dispensing equipment with a heavy-duty foot pedal to seal fittings for its line of water heaters. Operators dispensed the sealant from one-liter bottles into the Marco II system. Typically, these systems come equipped with a dispense tip on the end, allowing the operator to apply the sealant through the needle to the part. Loctite also adds a square plastic blockto improve the efficiency of the system.

Customer Gains with Reduced Service Calls and Field Complaints

The air compressors manufactures - Arempee Compressors were using metallic gaskets to seal the valve plate assembly to cylinder head in top block assembly of the compressors. However, the metallic gaskets do not create 100% sealing between mating surfaces and are expensive which cause field complaints of air and oil leakage. Loctite 596 silicone gasketing compounds help them to solve this problem. They covers surface imperfections and seal potential leak paths which create 100% sealing between mating flanges. Contractor Chose Loctite Sealants over PTFE Thread Tapes

Sayer Constructions was installing fire hydrants around building sites in Australia. They had previously used PTFE Thread Tapes to seal the treaded pipe joints in the hydrants. However, thread tapes failed to withstand high pressures and water surges typical in hydrant systems. Loctite 567 PST Thread sealant seals and secures metal pipes and fittings to ensure 100% leak proof joints.

Henkel Engineer Provides Solution after Analyzing Process Considerations
The high voltage IHP motors of 150 to 3000 HP rating in India used an RTV silicone sealant to seal the end shield of the motors. However, the seal created by this sealant failed to perform consistently and failed to withstand IP 65* tests. During a plant survey, Henkel Loctite 518 Gasket Eliminator an anaerobic Flange sealant was recommended for this application. It fills all imperfections of cast iron body and end shield. It does not cure until the application on the entire flange area is complete and end shield is assembled thereby eliminating the limitations with previous application method. The assembly passes IP 65 test - eliminating rejections and rework.

Outperforms PTFE Tapes & Copper Washer
A leading manufacturer of CNC machines used PTFE tapes to seal the threaded joints at the oil filter inlet and outlet manifold. But the PTFE tapes shredded while assembling, some of these shreds get into the system and the customer was receiving field complaints of oil filter being blocked with shreds of PTFE tapes. Loctite 542 anaerobic thread sealant designed to seal fine threads was recommended for this application. It gave 100% sealing of threads - filling the thread imperfections and gaps and creating a leak proof joint thus creating additional savings in costs.
