Leaks Eliminated, Gasketing Costs Cut Over 60%
Whirlpool Corporation wants to increase production and cut costs while improving product quality. During the development of a new model washing machine, its engineering staff analyzed the assembly process of their transmission case flanges. It required tacking down a cut gasket into position and torquing the fasteners in the case. Not only was this process extremely labor intensive, but leakage was present.
Loctite suggested Formed-in-Place (FIP) Anaerobic Flange Sealants to achieve this goal. Unlike conventional gasketing methods, FIP technology doesn’t require extreme compression loading to form a reliable seal. Anaerobics offer true “metal-to-metal” flange contact, dramatically improving structural load-carrying capability.

Saves Precious Oil, Prevents Costly Equipment Breakdowns
The hydraulic fittings (1/4” – 3/4” BSP) on the lift loosened and leaked frequently and led to customer complaints. Conventional sealing methods failed to perform under such severe operating conditions. Loctite 577 thread sealant designed to seal coarse threads was successfully tested for the application. With the help of Loctite 577, Nifty Lifts got the biggest gains of improving the equipment reliability and customer satisfaction.
