Essar Equipment is a manufacturer of air compressors in India. They were using competitive anaerobic threadlocker to lock and seal the threads of brass and Zinc coated MS end plugs in the tank assembly. The female threads had oil traces and the competition threadlocker didn’t perform consistently in presence of these traces. Customer also used ptfe tapes in addition to the threadlocker as a back-up. They still received sealing failures and did not get consistent performance. Additionally, the threadlocker spilled on to the joint area during assembly and peeled the pain just outsidethe joint – affecting the aesthetics. Many a time, the threadlocker was too strong to disassemble and while opening the plug the aliminium non-return valve (NRV) was damaged - needing replacement.

An Indian manufacturer of domestic water purifiers used ptfe tapes to seal the plastic pipe thread joints. Though no leaks were detected at assembly / testing stage, the joints loosened during transportation & handling causing leak. PTFE tapes offeres lubricity that many times results in over tightening of the plastic joints – leasing to cracks and under vibrations – aids loosening. PTFE tapes also tend to shred and lose their sealing properties when the joints are re-adjusted.

A.O. Smith Water Products Co., of McBee, SC uses Loctite Corporation’s standard Marco II sealant dispensing equipment with a heavy-duty foot pedal to seal fittings for its line of water heaters. Operators dispensed the sealant from one-liter bottles into the Marco II system. Typically, these systems come equipped with a dispense tip on the end, allowing the operator to apply the sealant through the needle to the part. Loctite also adds a square plastic blockto improve the efficiency of the system.

Contractor Chose Loctite Sealants over PTFE Thread Tapes

Sayer Constructions was installing fire hydrants around building sites in Australia. They had previously used PTFE Thread Tapes to seal the treaded pipe joints in the hydrants. However, thread tapes failed to withstand high pressures and water surges typical in hydrant systems.
