Withstands High Temperature, Eliminates Use of PTFE Tapes

Elgi Equipment is the largest manufacturer of industrial air compressors in India. They were using competitive anaerobic thread sealant to lock and seal the blackened steel threads to cast iron housing in the top block assembly. The competition thread sealant didn’t last high temperature operation conditions and failed. Customer also used ptfe tapes in addition to the sealant as a back-up. They still received inconsistent performance and complaints.

Use of Loctite® 770 Allows Adhesion on Inactive Surfaces

A leading manufacturer of electric motors, geared motors, torque limiters, variable frequency drives, soft starters and more in Australia used PP capacitor boxes. Customer wanted to lock threaded plastic parts of these capacitor boxes made of Polypropylene. Customer tested competitive, general purpose adhesives but these fail to perform. PP is a low surface energy material and is difficult to bond.

Reduces Field Complaints

A leading manufacturer of small domestic appliances was using star washers to lock the yellow passivated M4 screw of top lid handle of domestic pressure cookers they were making. They had several field complaints of handle loosening over the usage period as the star washer not only failed to retain the clamp load but also was unable to accommodate difference in thermal expansion between dissimilar materials.

Avoids Field Failures and Protects Threads from Corrosion

LTM India is tyre processing machines manufacturer used nylock nuts to lock the heavy M16 bolts on the pci machines. However, the nylock nuts loosened due to heavy vibrations and thermal cycling that the tyre machines are subjected to. Loctite 243 medium strength threadlocker was recommended for this application. Loctite 243 does what nylock nuts can’t - they filll the gap between threads and locks the threads together - creating a unitized assembly that does not loosen under severe vibrations and thermal cycling.

Eliminates Need for Expensive Machining

The drive bearing of a new model of portable cleaning machines needed to be mounted in the cast iron gear housing. As the Gear housing is cast, it is very difficult to maintain the tolerances. Machining the bearing seat area involved high machining cost and time. Henkel’s Loctite products were recommended for this application: Loctite 660 Quick Metal Retaining compound was used along with 7649 Primer to retain bearing to housing and Loctite 242 used to lock the screws of gear to housing which creates 100% metal-to-metal contact between the mating parts increasing the load carrying capability as well as preventing the area from fretting corrosion.
