Challenge

Nifty Lifts, Australia makes Hydraulic Lifts for forestry, mining and construction use. The lift is subjected to severe vibrations, impacts & shocks. The hydraulic fittings (1/4” – 3/4” BSP) on the lift loosened and leaked frequently and led to customer complaints. Conventional sealing methods failed to perform under such severe operating conditions.

Solution

Loctite 577 thread sealant designed to seal coarse threads was successfully tested for the application. Its controlled strength ensures consistent opening torque and easy disassembly.

Loctite thread sealants seal and secure metal pipes and fittings. Applied liquid these sealants cure to fill the space between threaded metal parts, and prevent leakage. Designed for low and high pressure applications, Loctite liquid thread sealants seal instantly for low pressure testing. When fully cured, they seal to the burst strength of most piping systems.

Results

Loctite 577 gave 100% sealing of screw threads – filling the thread imperfections and gaps and creating a leak proof joint. Fittings remain locked and sealed under severe conditions – no more leaks. No shredding like PTFE tapes – Loctite 577 does not clog filters and systems. The biggest gains for Nifty, however, were improved equipment reliability and customer satisfaction.
